Post subject: sometimes on initial connection, http error 204

Hello,

I've found that randomly, rather than directing users to the portal page they get directed instead to the following page:

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/generate_204

This happens regardless of server load, and on first connection, but not always. Any thoughts, or other information I should provide, I'll be happy to provide it.

Do you have a test case? E.g. it only happens when accessing Exception Free Websites for the first time.

Also, please double-check your DNS when this problem happens using command:

nslookup apple.com
nslookup [yourproblemdomain.com]

Alan, thanks for the troubleshooting recommendations. It is an exception free setup, and it does only happen when it is a new device. I'll try the nslookup and let you know the results.

Sorry, misunderstood your meaning of exception free, no I don't have any exception free websites configured, I have it setup as anonymous, just to have users agree to terms of service. It's when the tos page should load that it gets stuck.

Okay. But we still need your nslookup test output.

The other thing to note is that make sure there is no other web server (e.g. Apache) in your Windows before installing FirstSpot.

Your http error is 204, which mean the content (page) has been deleted. Are you sure you haven't customize the web page?
