Post subject: Easy way to halt the DHCP service

Hi Alan,
I wonder if you can suggest a polite way to stop and start the DHCP service on firstspot.

I wanted to stop it during the blackout period.
I am happy to just kill the service and try to restart it in the mornings but there may be a more preferred method
or
this action, may indeed, be disruptive to the normal FS operations.

Any thoughts.?

It is actually not recommend since active user may renew the IP during the Blackout Period. Also, it is pretty confusing from client point of view as to why he fails to obtain an IP.

Hi Alan,

I do not mind the client confusion too much !
This configuration for this site is for use during normal hours,
anybody trying after hours is not welcome anyway.

What would be good if the users during the blackout period
were unable to get to the normal screens.

Things like :
Signup form,
Login form,
Change password form,
no doubt a few others too...

not sure where the blackout redirect is happening so cannot provide you an instant solution or workaround.

The trusted sites (exception list) are fine but to stop people trying to hack or generally make a fool of themselves it would be nice if the other system pages were blocked after hours.

I may wrap some edits into the pages directly but it seems an odd patch.

Please do not think I am saying that everyone has the same needs but
perhaps as a selectable option it could be of benefit to more than just me.

If I were to also HALT the DHCP server will the FS software try to restart it automatically or will the FS software fail and need attention.
I am sure I can stop and start the service but do not know what impact it will have for your software.

You can shutdown the Patronsoft FirstSpot DHCP service under Windows Service Console.
