Were you able to extract all files in the zip successfully?

Did you manage to run setup.msi successfully? [Please do not run the apache setup program manually. ]

If you can let us know at which exact step the installation halted, we can troubleshoot the case for you further.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. On running setup.msi everything seems OK until I click on the typical option. Then after I click install the gauge reaches about 2/3 before I get the message "FirstSpot (TM) cannot install one of its required products. Contact your technical support group."

Any ideas?

Please check out the Application Log within Windows Event Viewer. It should contain a more verbose error message.

Please post the error message here for further analysis.

Also, what OS are you using? Any sevice pack?

Hi,

The MSIinstaller error is just logged as:

Product: FirstSpot(TM) -- Error 1713. FirstSpot(TM) cannot install one of its required products. Contact your technical support group. System Error: 1631.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I'm using Windows XP Home, SP2.

From the demo, your software looks like it might be exactly what a lot of my clients need, but I really need to test it first.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you for the information. We will do more testing in our lab and give you feedback asap. Please bear with us.

One more thing, do you have administrative rights when you try to install FirstSpot?

We are still trying to reproduce the problem in our lab.

Please help us to test one more thing. Try to start the "Windows Installer" manually in the Windows Services Console. Does it start okay? Any error?

(Note the default setting for this "Windows Installer" service is manual and not started, so you might want to stop it after the test.)

OK, tried it. There doesn't seem to be any problem, it just goes to 'Started' with just a %age gauge.

No error messages or anything.

By the way, I hope you noticed my typo earlier, but I'm running XP Home with Service Pack 1, not 2 which is not out yet.

Don't know if it helps, but on the first try I had to change the PC to ACPI Single Processor as Windows had incorrectly detected it as multiprocessor when installed (Hyperthreading?).

The multiprocessor workaround (specified readme.rtf) shouldn't cause the install process to break.

We are investigating the issue. It seems that this problem appears intermittently, and it only happens on XP.

We are still unable to reproduce this problem.

We really need a test case to resolve this. Can you setup remote control software like VNC or Windows Remote Desktop Connection so that we can take a look at your PC? Please send us an email to firstspot@patronsoft.com to discuss.

Thank you for your patient.

We find out the problem.

Make sure you extract ALL the files in the FirstSpot trial zip file to a seperate directory before running setup.msi. If you just double-click the setup.msi in the Windows zip folder (note that starting from XP, Windows has build-in zip support), Windows will exact setup.msi only (without any other files!) and run setup.msi. This creates problem since FirstSpot setup.msi will unable to locate other necessary files to finish the setup.

Also, the problem will potentially happen in Windows 2000 also.

OK, that worked. Many thanks.

Now I'm on the log on screen. It seems that it won't take the user name and password supplied in the user guide. No error message or anything, it just takes me straight back to the blank log on screen every time I enter the details and click 'login'.

Any suggestions?

Are you talking about user login? Note that username=sample and password=password .

(For Configuration Manager login, try username=firstspot and password=password)

If that doesn't work, try:
1) Stop FirstSpot
2) press the reset button in the user tab of the Configuration Manager
3) Start FirstSpot

If you still have difficulty, please send us the config.ini file and the debug log (at FirstSpot\log)
