Post subject: PayPal problem since Nov 11, 2008

We've received reports of problem related with PayPal recently and we found that PayPal's Live IPN System has not been working properly since Nov 11th:
http://www.paypaldeveloper.com/pdn/board/message?board.id=ipn&thread.id=14510

We're testing a workaround. Please try to perform the following modification in FirstSpot\local\ppal_ipn.php (v5):

Search the line (around line 42)

if (strcmp ($result, "VERIFIED") == 0)

Replace with

if (true)

[A long-term fix is still preferred from PayPal since this skips one of the integrity check for the time being.]

If you still have difficulty, please reproduce the issue and post the file FirstSpot\log\txn.log.

It looks like around that time PayPal IPN upgraded from 2.5 to 2.6. The new PayPal IPN changes its behavior and breaks the FirstSpot PayPal module.

Below is the patch for v5 (you can apply to v5.1.4 and v5.1.5) to cater for the new PayPal IPN 2.6:

http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/download/patch/516/ppal.zip

Please unzip the above zip file and replace the 2 files in FirstSpot\local directory.

This problem will be fixed in the upcoming v5.1.6.

Note that v5.1.6 has already been released and it contains this PayPal fix. Please visit http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/download_trial.html to download the latest v5.

The fix is available for v5 (or newer) only.
