Post subject: Limitaions of DEMO Copy ??

I have downloaded and installed the demo copy. My dual NIC PC has a standard 1/100 NIC while the second NIC is a USB powered NIC made by DLINK. My hub is a DLINK 802.11b with turbo mode that pushes it to 22MB. The Test is working well but has a few issue that I hope are issues with the demo copy.

1) The first time I connect to the hotspot via my notebook, I have to enter http://191.168.0.192/firstspotdemo as the address. If go to my default website, the system will not connect. My default website is www.yahoo.com After I force the system to connect to http://191.168.0.192/firstspotdemo then I can close the browser and it will go to www.yahoo.com but only after I enter a valid username and password on the FIRSTSPOT Login Website. Is it a feature of the demo to force startup with http://191.168.0.192/firstspotdemo or ??

2) The http://logout command does not work. This problem maybe related to the above issue. I noticed other fixes for this logout issue but I thought best to tackle the startup issue mentioned above first.

3) Can I test multiple connections via multiple wireless notebooks ? I maybe seeing an issue with one notebook running the 802.11b and the other running the 802.11g card.

Thanks for the help

The normal squence of 'surfing' through FirstSpot will be

=> A user opens a web browser trying to access a web site (by domain name or ip is the same)
=> FirstSpot will present a login page for users to type in username and password
=> The user will be brought to the original site typed after a successful authentication

In your case; for the first time you access http://192.168.0.192/firstspotdemo; it should ask you for login instantly; instead of requiring a few other trials.

One possibility would be the client machine having more than one network card installed and enabled. The client OS itself may get confused to get the right path out to the Internet. Once it uses its trial & error way to get a positive response from the outside world, it will remember that and keep using the right path (i.e. network card). If that's really the case, you can try to disable the other unused card.

The other thing worths checking is to do a round of ipconfig/all command to see if the client machine have got the correct ip, default gateway, DNS assignment from FirstSpot DHCP server.

for instant keyword logout to work; the client machine needs to get the right default domain suffix as firstspot.com through DHCP (or you can manually assign that if you're not using DHCP)

you can get more detailed troubleshooting steps from:

Yes, you should be able to test it without problems. FirstSpot takes care of the traffic at the Ethernet side after your wireless AP transform the RF signal into Ethernet signals.
