|
|
I just installed FirstSpot with 2 cards and I want to test it with a crossover cable, the thing is that I don't get any login screen at all, the DHCP server doesn't seem to assign me an address.
Everything looks good on the server side, but nothing on the client PC.
Any answers???
Thanks |

If you connect FirstSpot's private nic and your client machine through a cross-over cable, please make sure you do the following in *sequence*
1) have both machines booted up and ready
2) connect the crossover cable
3) start FirstSpot
4) renew your client machine ip using ipconfig /renew
5) use ipconfig /all
If this doesn't help. Make sure:
1) DHCP is enabled under the Configuration Manager
2) You are really using a cross-over cable
You can also try to assign manually an ip for your client machine
IP: same subnet as the private nic of FirstSpot
Gateway & DNS: FirstSpot private nic ip
Then try to ping FirstSpot private nic ip (from the client) to see if it's really connected to that interface (so that you can isolate the DHCP problem).
Please let us know if the problem still persists.

I tried that in sequence but when I tried to start Firstspot it doesn't stay "started", it starts for a few seconds and then appears as "stopped". _________________ Slac10 |

I have had the same problem.
Have the read the handbook properly? and followed it?
also have you unticked the windows shares & printers.
You might try to uninstall firstSpot & reinstall. that normally fix's any problems.
Its always a good idea to update windows with all the new service packs etc.
Hope that helps

That problem may be due to the change of the physical network card. In that case, you'll have to reinstall FirstSpot.

OK, I will reinstall the software. I have two other questions, can FirstSpot support multiple access points in the same building? Do we need a managed switch or just a hub? _________________ Slac10 |

Yes, you can have multiple APs working with FirstSpot, using a hub or switch can do the job equally well.
