Post subject: Using Firstspot on Web Server

A few questions

1. Can I run firstspot on a PC which is also a web server. For example
a Windows XP Pro box, running IIS or Apache, which is then used as a
web host for the local private net (and possibly for the public net too).
I think firstpot incorporates a web server like apache, so how do I ensure
that my web server does not interefere with the functioning of firstpot?

2. Will my local clients be able to dial through to a VPN from behind
firstspot router? I need several clients to be able to make a connection
to the same VPN server. This works on some routers, but on others there
is a NAT limitation which only allows 1 connection to any given VPN server.

Thanks
Ben

Post subject: One more question

3. Can I use firstspot with MYSQL running on central server, i.e.
a number of firstspot routers would authenticate with a central server
running MYSQL ODBC database.

Thanks
Ben

1) FirstSpot needs to use its own Apache server. So in fact you need to unintall Apache and disable IIS before installing FirstSpot.

If you want to put other web content in the FirstSpot machine, you can take advantage of the "Local Content" concept in FirstSpot.

2) VPN should work. One way to ensure that the VPN works perfectly is to disable NAT within FirstSpot. Refer to firstpsot_guide.pdf for instruction.

3) Are you referring to Scenario 2 : Distributed Network Topology ( http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/topologies.html )? Note that starting from v4, the only supported Distributed Network Topology is through RADIUS Authentication Mode. Refer to v4 firstspot_guide.pdf for details.

Please check out the "Local Content Example" link in the login page. You can mimic the behavior of that particular web link.
