Firstspot was working fine, but now has stopped redirecting to the entered
url. I am using the secret and after entering it says it is redirecting and even shows the site on the IE task bar but it fails with page cannot be displayed.
The host pc can surf just fine and I can ping the gateway from the wireless
client after login. I am also getting a correct IP address from Firstspot.
Any ideas?

You said the FirstSpot WAS working fine. Any configuration change happen recently?
Your symptom suggests that it is routing problem. Did you turn off NAT in FirstSpot (please post your config.ini file)?
Please also check the Routing and Remote Access Service. Is it still started? _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

It was the routing service, I manually started it earlier but didnt set to come up automatically, so after a reboot it didnt come up.
Thanks |

The Routing and Remote Access service should be "not started" and "manual" before you start FirstSpot. Can you confirm? _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

jjoaquin, you might not have the same problem. What is your symptom?
Also, please make sure you turn off offloading. See readme.rtf for instruction. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

from readme.rtf, about offloading;
"A typical symptom includes client device not being able to see the “redirected” login page (but the client device can ping the PC running FirstSpot, and the client can access sites that defined in Exception Free Websites IP address). You can usually disable offloading in the Advanced tab of the network adapter’s Properties windows"
1. the client can see the redirecting page after login. after a while it gets an error that the page cannot be displayed.
2. the client can ping the Firstspot PC.
but after turning the offloading features of the network card same results. |

Did you do by any chance a windows update ?
I had the same problem 2 days ago. I made different changes that day, one of them was a windows XP pro update. At the end of the day I had same problem. However I could find a solution in a windows restore to previous day and everything worked again. But like I said I did different things that day , so not sure yet what caused the problem.

Note that you need to turn off offloading (or hardware checksum) in the Intel card and reboot Windows. Sometimes, the network card driver will fail to turn off the offloading by itself. You need to change the registry if this is the case (again, see readme.rtf for details).
If you still have problem, I suggest you reinstall FirstSpot will Private and Public Network Interface flipped. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

Hi Alan,
Already re-installed FS, also made sure that offloading on the Intel card was turned off but still the same problem. Also tried making the intel card my public interface and my other card private still the same problem. |

jjoaquin, I need to know your EXACT symptom.
i.e. Can the client access Exception Free Web (e.g. patronsoft.com)? Can your FirstSpot machine access the Internet after starting FirstSpot? Can the client ping the FirstSpot machine IP 10.20.7.1? _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

hi Alan, sorry for the late reply.
1. Can the client access Exception Free Web (e.g. patronsoft.com)?
- yes but exceptionally slow, sometimes I get a page cannot be displayed error.
2. Can your FirstSpot machine access the Internet after starting FirstSpot?
- firstspot machine can access the internet even after starting Firstspot.
3. Can the client ping the FirstSpot machine IP 10.20.7.1?
- the client machines can ping the FS machine IP which is the default 10.20.7.1
On intramanga's reply he said it might be the windows update, could it be true? |

Because of pt1, most likely you have a routing problem.
Please try:
1) start "Routing and Remote Access service" manually as a test, does Windows generate any error (check the event viewer also)? Stop "The Routing and Remote Access service" after the test. (i.e. "The Routing and Remote Access service should be "not started" and "manual" before you start FirstSpot.)
2) post your config.ini file _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |
